City Staff Reveal New Ten-Year Arts Plan

The Creative City Concept

Last Thursday I attended a presentation by the Office of Cultural Affairs on a new ten-year cultural plan for the City of Vancouver.

One of the best aspects of the plan is a renewed emphasis on service – hence the new name of Department of Cultural Services – and a streamlining of fifteen grant programs down to two: Artist-initiated projects and Community-initiated projects, further separated into large and small budgets. The intention is to make it easier for time-strapped smaller non-profits and artists to apply for funding.

I think it’s a great initiative and I fully support these steps to provide more service to the artists and organizations that face too many hurdles in reaching Vancouver audiences.
